What We Do

Naturopathy

What is naturopathy? What can you expect from a consultation? Why does it cost that much?

Naturopathy is an overarching term (often confusing and hard-to-say!) used by natural medicine practitioners and medicinal herbalists. Naturopaths can have a wide range of different approaches and focuses, and below I talk a little bit about mine.

From a consultation you can expect a deep conversation about your current picture of health and health history. It is important to take time to ask all the questions we naturopaths ask, because the more information we get the more effectively we can help you heal yourself.

The cost covers the time spent with you, but there is often a lot of time before, after, and in-between consultations researching and reviewing your health challenges.

So be assured - I am in it for the love (of helping you) and not the gold! (money).

I work with persons of all genders and identities, children, babies, old people, young people. People who are weathered by their experiences with the orthodox medical system and want to try something new, people who love their Doctor but need extra advice or more things to try.

Are Naturopaths anti-Doctors?

Short-answer on behalf of my colleagues: No.

I come from a medical family, and I acknowledge both the wonderful experiences people have with their doctors as well as the not-so-wonderful experiences. Naturopaths are not here to take over a Doctor’s job, what we do is quite different. Working cooperatively with doctors is the preferred outcome.

Am I a woo-woo hippy?

I do appreciate the beauty of crystals, however our naturopathic consult won’t involve them. I’m not so gifted I can channel spirits however I can refer you to wonderful people who can.

Natural medicine

What does ‘natural medicine’ entail?

Natural medicine can include using supplements, quality nutritionally-dense food, herbal medicines, and lifestyle changes to achieve an increase in wellbeing and overall health, and management or recovery of chronic health conditions.

Herbal medicine

What are herbs, herbal tinctures, and what can you expect from them?

Herbal tinctures are formulated specifically for the client, and are used either on an acute basis, or over a medium-long term period.

Short term (acute): immune support, coughs, colds, digestive upset, anxiety/panic attacks

Long term support: Stress, anxiety, hormonal health (eg period regulation, heavy or painful bleeding, menopause support)

They don’t always taste nice!

I only use high quality plant extracts manufactured by a well-established and respected NZ company Phytomed Medicinal Herbs Ltd.
